Fonds Slachtofferhulp

Pieter van Vollenhoven Emergency Support Fund
Every day, hundreds of Dutch people go through a traumatic experience as a result of a crime, sexual abuse or a serious traffic accident. In some cases people get into in financial difficulties because of what has happened to them and find themselves in a critical situation. How do you deal with an experience like that and how do you pick up the pieces and get on with your life? At Fonds Slachtofferhulp (the Dutch victim support fund) they see just how much impact this has on people.

Fonds Slachtofferhulp operates the Pieter van Vollenhoven Emergency Support Fund. This emergency support fund is able to provide people with immediate assistance, in many cases the same day. Victims who have got into financial difficulties due to no fault of their own and find themselves in a critical situation can ask for emergency financial support. The Pieter van Vollenhoven Emergency Support Fund can provide victims in the Netherlands with one-off assistance in the form of financial assistance, assistance in kind or expert help. Since 2006 the Fund has helped around 1000 victims of crimes and accidents each year.

“The idea behind the Emergency Support Fund has always been that while it’s not possible to compensate you for what someone has done to you, it’s a good thing for society to extend a helping hand,” explains Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven, the founder and honorary chairman of Fonds Slachtofferhulp. The Pieter van Vollenhoven Emergency Support Fund gives people immediate practical assistance. A small amount can make a big difference and rescue someone from a desperate situation. This gives them the support they need to get through the most difficult period. It helps them get their confidence back and enables them to look ahead to the future.

By contributing to the Emergency Support Fund, Adessium Foundation makes a contribution to helping victims in a critical situation.
