Stichting PILP
PILP serves as the legal ally for a diverse group of stakeholders in the Netherlands, including NGOs, advocacy groups, movements, communities, activists, lawyers and academics.
PILP strives to promote human rights, strengthen the rule of law and create a more just world. The organization was founded in 2014 as a project of the Netherlands Committee of Lawyers for Human Rights to explore the possibilities for strategic litigation in the Netherlands.
PILP is now recognized in the Netherlands as an expert in this field and the organization has developed in the field of Movement Lawyering. Since July 1, 2023, PILP has operated as an independent foundation.
In recent years, PILP has achieved several legal victories in collaboration with various organizations, experts, groups and lawyers. Examples of this can be found in cases such as SyRI, Ethnic Profiling and numerous cases regarding the right to demonstrate.
Another victory is that children in the Netherlands can no longer be disconnected from drinking water. We spoke with director Jelle Klaas, who worked for ten years toward this legal decision. “Children were falling between the cracks. That’s no longer acceptable.”
