Investico

Investico strengthens the democratic rule of law by feeding the public debate. Not with inflated scandals, but through news and investigative stories that clarify how decisions are made, where implementation may go awry, and how oversight functions in social issues that are important for the Netherlands.

Investico is a non-profit organization for investigative journalism and a trainer of journalistic talent. The organization focuses exclusively on investigative journalism, always in collaboration with other media. Investico offers a counterbalance to the short attention span and the incident-driven nature that often dominate societal debate.

Good investigative journalism is expensive and requires more time, patience, and craftsmanship than the free market can provide. Editors at Investico are given the time to work on an investigation for months. Investment is made in their data journalism skills, allowing them to ‘look’ deeper. Complexity is not shied away from. In this way, Investico exposes societal injustices that would otherwise remain hidden.

We asked Investico journalist Belia Heilbron about an important investigation: “Is there class justice in the Netherlands?” Investico, the investigative journalism platform, delved into this question. Belia Heilbron: “Now that we know that class journalism exists, it’s a topic of conversation.”
