According to the institute, information currently often remains confined within ministries and government agencies. They believe that pivotal decisions deserve open debate, because better understanding leads to better policy.
Example: poverty relief policy
It’s difficult to get help when you’re living in poverty. Shame, anxiety and complex rules all get in the way. The Instituut voor Publieke Economie (IPE) studied poverty relief policy. “I never realized that it was so fragmented”, says research leader Jasper J. van Dijk.
