Clean water and clean beaches: those are the goals of the Surfrider Foundation. The organization works to achieve them through research, education, and media campaigns. The foundation specifically targets the reduction of plastic waste on beaches and in the water. A prime example is the campaign to reduce the use of plastic bags.
Thanks in part to legislative and regulatory differences among European countries, their plastic bag consumption differs greatly. While residents of Finland and Denmark use an average of four plastic bags per person per year, the average number for Poland and Portugal is 466. The European Union is currently contemplating legislation that would diminish the use of lightweight plastic bags across all member states. The Surfrider Foundation’s campaign is designed to inform policy makers in Brussels on the effectiveness of potential measures to decrease the use of plastic bags.
The support Adessium Foundation provides to the Surfrider Foundation serves our commitment to combat environmental pollution.
