Privacy is a fundamental human right that means you control who knows what about you, and under what conditions. It is the right to know that your personal e-mails, medical records and bank details are safe and will be handled with care. Privacy is essential to human dignity and autonomy in all societies. In recent years, the protection of privacy has been under threat. Technological advances are enabling companies and governments to gather and store greater information about individuals.
Privacy International believes that the right to privacy is compatible with technological innovation and the effective prevention of crime and terrorism—as long as we carefully craft our policy and legislation to safeguard the right to privacy. The organization investigates corporate and government threats to privacy and works to ensure adequate national and international legislation to protect our private lives.
Adessium Foundation is supporting Privacy International in its goal for a world in which privacy is protected by governments, respected by companies, and cherished by individuals.
